You need some windows-style file sharing for multiple people working on a CityDesk site. It's a limitation for sure and it's discussed in the knowledgebase: http://www.fogcreek.com/CityDesk/kb/howto/MultipleUsersOverInternet.html . No doubt v3 will have something to say about team collaboration...

If CityDesk users must use the same file, couldn’t you post it on your web server (password protected, of course) and share it via FTP?

I agree that CityDesk’s power is that it is a desktop CMS. The only limitation I have found is that contributors have to be on the same network (or VPN), as CityDesk’s architecture relies upon one centralized file. Otherwise, after reviewing and testing server-based CMS systems that cost 10 times the amount, I’ve gone ahead and bought CityDesk as well.

True, you don’t have to be on-line to use it. No painful configuration. Easy to post to an alternate location. I’d have to agree.
