About Me

My name is John Conners. I spent the first 24 years or so of my life living in Fife, Scotland where I developed a slightly unconvincing Scottish accent, an appreciation of cold winters, a love of mountains and the outdoors and a live-life-in-the-moment attitude. Amongst other things.
I now live in Yorkshire where I have developed an appreciation of rain (it never stops raining), the ability to do the most unconvincing Yorkshire accent in the world (it sounds okay to me but apparently it’s terrible) and a passion for real ales. Amongst other things.
I spend most of my free time (when I’m not injured) playing football, mountain biking, hiking, running, lifting weights and just generally keeping in shape. My other passions in life are photography and music - I’m never far away from my iPod and barely a moment goes by that a song isn’t bouncing around inside my head, and I go to see as many quality bands as I can. I’m a software developer by trade and that can also spill into my free time (when I am injured) - see the My Software section of this site.
Back in 2004 I wrote a piece of software that changes your PC’s background picture at specified intervals and released it for free. I’m no good with names so I called it John’s Background Switcher. Over time I’ve expanded the functionality from the many suggestions I’ve had from people using it and now you can choose photos from a variety of sites like Flickr, smugmug, Picasa and Phanfare as well as your PC. It’s proved rather popular to the point where I now have thousands of users! It’s still free due to the fact that it’s something I do for fun and money isn’t the be-all and end-all of life.
I started this blog way back in 2002 and after several periods of running out of enthusiasm for the venture I’m back and writing again (now that it’s actually fashionable to do so). I don’t take myself too seriously so bear that in mind. If I write something that makes you think I’m being an arrogant git - I’m probably joking!
This site contains my ramblings, some photos I’ve taken and stories from my past, present and imagination. Enjoy.
